Rob Dufty, New Centre Manager at Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre
Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre has been a key part of the community for years, and Rob Dufty knows it better than most. With over 30 years of experience, he’s worked his way up from lifeguard to Centre Manager, building strong relationships with staff and members along the way. Well-known and respected for his dedication, Rob is now back at DSLC as Centre Manager and ready to take on the next phase of the centre’s development.
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your journey with Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre?
“I started as a lifeguard in 1994 at the old indoor pool and Lido. When the new pool and leisure centre opened in 1996, I moved there and worked my way up through the company. In 2007, I became the centre manager of the Lido when it reopened. I then took on the role of Centre Manager at Pershore Leisure Centre in November 2022. However, having also been a Duty Manager at Droitwich Spa for over 20 years while managing the Lido, it feels great to return this year as Centre Manager at Droitwich.”
Q: What made you want to come back to DSLC?
“After gaining valuable management experience at Pershore, the timing felt right for me to return to Droitwich, especially with the upcoming refurbishments this year. It’s an exciting time for the centre, and I’m looking forward to being part of its next chapter.”
Q: What are your main priorities for the centre in the coming months?
“My focus is on overseeing the major projects we have lined up, making sure the centre is the people’s choice for fitness. A big priority will be planning for the refurbishment project, which is set to begin towards the end of the summer.”
Q: In your opinion, what makes DSLC unique?
“One of the biggest things that sets DSLC apart is its fantastic outdoor space. The football pitches and pavilion play a huge role in the centre’s identity, offering something different from other sites.”
Q: How do you see the centre evolving to meet community needs?
“The addition of a new learner pool will be a huge benefit, along with a new café and a refreshed main entrance to improve the overall experience. We’re also introducing extra treatment rooms, giving the centre another dimension and expanding our services. Beyond these visible improvements, a lot of work will be happening behind the scenes to improve our environmental impact. We’ll have more efficient boilers and an upgraded plant room, making sure the centre is run more sustainably.”
Q: What do you enjoy most about working in leisure and fitness?
“I love interacting with customers and chatting with people. It’s great to see familiar faces and meet new people every day.”
Q: What would you say to those who haven’t visited in a while?
“We’re always evolving! If you haven’t been in a while, you’ll find we have lots on offer and a wide range of classes including Les Mills. Whether you’re looking for fitness classes, sports facilities or family-friendly activities, there’s something for everyone at Droitwich.”
With Rob back as Centre Manager, Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre is in good hands for the future. His experience and knowledge of the centre will help guide the upcoming refurbishments and improvements. If you haven’t visited in a while, now is a great time to see what’s new. There’s plenty to look forward to in the months ahead!
